Only ONE miracle/sign is found in ALL four Gospels…Name it!
In the Gospel of John only 7 miracles are noted and John calls these 'signs'. Here comes the first. We got to go to a wedding this week in Cana; a small village north of Nazareth by 9 miles ( half a day's walk). The greatest faux pas occurred when the wine ended before the party…and they were big drinkers! Jesus Honored his Mother by fulfilling her request to fix the problem.(what did he do around the house that let her know he could tackle this …hmmm?) In the most quiet of ways, the best wine appeared. We discussed lots of symbolism in this passage; bride/bridegroom, new wine, clay vessels, being filled to overflowing, and doing what your mom tells you( I think that's a commandment LOL) Next week we tackle that 'born again' stumbling block. Trivia Only ONE miracle/sign is found in ALL four Gospels…Name it! by Debbie Morales The priests and officials did their due diligence in investigating the "Thunder in the Desert". John the Baptist was getting a lot of attention as waves of people from Jerusalem were making the trek to the Jordan…not a quick hike. John B was son of Zechariah of the tribe of Levi, so he knew his Old Testament and was educated to be a rabbi. He was a smart man and he would have been good at marketing today because he dressed, and ate, and preached with bravado to catch the attention of the city folk. He also had some heavenly conversations that are not recorded in scripture (1:32-34) "The One who authorized me to baptize with water TOLD me, 'The One on whom you see the Spirit come down and stay, this One will baptize with the Holy Spirit' " John B had divine instructions. hmmm? We're headed to Cana next week but before Alice gets us there, Jesus picks up 4 disciples while leaving the Jordan. Can you name them? Bible Trivia for the week (and there IS a prize for the first to write in and answer correctly) Who was emperor at the start of John the Baptist's ministry? by Alice Trotter There are those who re-categorize Holy Scripture (Old and/or New Testaments) as well-meant and religiously insightful but factually unreliable human tradition, and assume the right to pass judgment on its truth and wisdom rather than letting it pass judgment on them. Is the Bible meaningful enough that you believe it? If your mind, soul, spirit answer “yes!”, continue with me: If there is a God (and there is) and if God has spoken in history (and he has) then, the most important thing in the world – is to find out what He has said! (Read and know the Bible!) In CrossWalk we are exploring what God has said in the Gospel of John.
God has given us so much evidence that Jesus, Son of God, Son of Man, is the Word, Light, Life, … God.
See Daniel 7:13-14 What verifiable evidence? People, places, and events have been independently verified by historians, archaeologist, and even enemies or opponents/non-believers of Christianity verify these things. (examples: Josephus historian 37AD -1st century, Tacitus (1st century Roman historian), Pliny the Younger (Roman, 111AD “people chant verses to honor Christ as if to a god”), more?... What would we know without the Gospel Accounts?
b. Faith spread beyond Palestine c. Multitudes of Christian were in Rome by 64AD 7.He was worshipped as God, by people from all stations in life. (various sources to include G. Koukle) We are at the starting line of the Gospel of John; written by the apostle John who was a fisherman though not poor, perhaps a partner of Peters, who was ambitious, high-tempered, eventually tamed, caretaker of Mary , beloved, and the youngest of Christ's disciples. He probably wrote this from Ephesus to new and growing Christians. (that's US!) The Book of John mirrors Genesis with "In the beginning…" So many important verses in John stand out from memory or from a favorite praise song, but today we read through probably one of the top five impacting truths in the whole Bible and that would be John 1:14 " The Word became flesh and dwelt with us" ( I bet you thought I was gonna say John 3:16 but I think that's numero UNO) I like my Message version of John 1:14" And the Word became flesh and moved into the neighborhood." Hope he's residing in your neighborhood! Joy, Debbie M Gospel of John These are a few of the statements made about the Gospel of John:
