During our three week pause from the Gospel of John, we are studying the Feasts of the Bible. They are enumerated in Lev. 23, and God commands the people to observe them. Debbie Anderberg is taking us through the Feasts that occur in the spring: Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, and Feast of Weeks. It's fascinating how God lays out just how the people are to observe them BUT before God even gets to the first one, He commands the Israelites to observe the Sabbath. ( 'cease' or 'rest' in Hebrew) But we are New Testament believers, is the Sabbath viewed differently in light of Jesus' sacrifice on our behalf?
Romans 14:5&6 "One person thinks that some days should be set aside as holy and another thinks that each day is pretty much like any other. There are good reasons either way. So, each person is free to follow the convictions of conscience. What's important in all this is that if you keep a holy day, keep it for GOD"S sake." Msg Is Sunday the same as the Sabbath? Well Sunday should definitely commemorate the resurrection, but we can enter into a Sabbath each and every day of the week by finding our rest in Christ.
Next week we party at the Feasts!
Trivia (last time's question was How long is Passover? and Debbie A. won with 7 days) The book of Leviticus is a narrative pause in the story of the Israelites as they are on their way and headed to Canaan. It's a 'time-out' instruction book for living 'holy' in a culture that hasn't a clue what that means. The word "Leviticus" refers to what priestly tribe of Israel?
