We never thought that taking a group of adults and teenagers to Russia in the spring of 1991 would change our lives. The group was comprised of students active in the high school ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ in San Diego. As it turns out they were some of the first Americans to ever enter the Moscow public schools. The school visits turned out to be wonderful opportunities to share the Gospel in each classroom. The Russians after 70 years of atheistic communism were eager to meet Americans from the West and to hear about Jesus Christ. The response was unparalleled.
This trip prompted the leadership of Campus Crusade for Christ asked our family to move to Moscow and begin a youth ministry there. Recruiting a wonderful team to accompany us, we spent three years in a short term ministry in Moscow.
Along the way, we discovered the impact of putting on English camps in building lasting relationships with secular Russian students and seeing them come to faith. Our long term replacements arrived and so for the last 18 years we have partnered with them in bringing adults and students to Moscow each year to help host an evangelistic English camp coupled with school visits, follow up meetings, and a tour of Red Square. Over 1000 students and adults have partnered with us in this endeavor since 1996.
Over the years we have been privileged to see some of our early converts become active in ministry and are serving the Lord in various occupations along with their spouses and children. It has been rewarding to go back each year and see that God continues to draw people to Himself.
This year we are planning another project to Russia over the Moscow school spring break in late March and the first of April. We always value your prayers for the doors to stay open in reaching out to the youth of Russia.
